The University of New Hampshire is not only the largest school near the small city of Portsmouth, New Hampshire, but is also the largest school in the state. The public research university was founded in 1866 and offers associate's, bachelor's and master's degrees in more than 100 areas of study. In addition to the five different schools and colleges, the university offers a graduate school as well. The colleges cover engineering and physical sciences, liberal arts, health and human services, life sciences and agriculture and business and economics.
Located Portsmouth, New Hampshire, Great Bay Community College is a 2-year, public school that is part of the New Hampshire Community College System. The school offers associate degree and certificate programs in academic and vocational areas of study. Students can choose from several academic programs, including biotechnology, accounting, criminal justice, early childhood education, liberal arts, hospitality management, marketing, nursing, medical coding, surgical technology and more. Great Bay Community College also houses a Business and Training Center that provides seminars, workshops and courses to upgrade employee skills.
Chester College of New England is a private school located about 24 miles away from Portsmouth in Chester, New Hampshire. The liberal arts college offers bachelor's degrees in various academic fields. Degree programs available include fine arts, creative writing, interdisciplinary studies, photography, media arts and design. The private school boasts state-of-the-art technologies and learning resources and boasts a relatively low 12:1 student to faculty ratio. Chester College provides part-time and online courses and programs for students who cannot commit to a traditional 4-year degree program.

Since you're in the medical profession, cost shouldn't be a factor. Take a sampling of beginning classes: life drawing, acrylic, watercolor and oil painting, maybe a ceramics class to hone your 3D skills. Also try "Mixed Media" which can open up new avenues with respect to the process.
Most painting is about process anyway....might as well explore it.
