Visual communication has become a critical part of contemporary culture. Photographic imaging is now the new force fueling the rapid expansion of media industry. This programme offers an education in photographic digital art with an emphasis on creativity and the development of a signature style.
General Description of the Programme
Students will be nurtured in an environment that opens them to new ideas. Courses in this programme will cover various aspects in the aesthetics and technological development of photographic imaging from the traditional film-based techniques to modern digital reproduction on projection screen and architectural scale gallery prints. The development of a personal artistic vision is central to the curriculum which puts equal emphasis on the acquisition of skills.
Graduates of this programme will be well prepared for careers in applied photography, moving images photography, visual communication and other branches of Creative Industry. They can also be art professionals, critics as well as independent artists.
This 4-year undergraduate programme is the first of its kind to be offered by a local university in Hong Kong, and will provide a good choice for secondary school students preparing themselves for the new challenges in the new media and creative industry.
Aims and Objectives
The programme aims to provide students with an in-depth education and training in the artistic practice of photography and digital imaging technology in relation to visual communication and media practice. Upon completion of the programme, students should be able to:
(a) Master the professional skills in lens-based photography and cinematography with natural and artificial lighting;
(b) Apply modern digital techniques creatively in the making of new forms of photographic work of art;
(c) Appraise the aesthetics of photography as well as other visual art forms and apply the knowledge to visual art criticism;
