Metàfora, Barcelona:
Metàfora is an international art school for adult students, situated in an old factory building in the centre of Barcelona, on the northeast Mediterranean coast in Spain. For more than 10 years, Metàfora has successfully run 2-week summer courses and year-long courses in Studio Arts (the International Workshop), as well as several programs in Art Therapy; introductory courses and an MA training program for the University of Barcelona. In all courses at Metàfora, we place emphasis on working with the creative potential of each student and the emotive process we all go though when making art.

Summer Intensive Art Therapy Course:

This is a 2-week course taught in English. On successful completion, you will be awarded Metàfora’s Initial Diploma in Art Therapy. This qualification is recognized by the ATE (Association of Spanish Professional Art Therapists), and is the equivalent to a Foundation Course in the countries in which this profession is regulated by the state (USA, UK). It is “a must” for those students who whish to pursue professional University Training in Art Therapy.

Metàfora’s Initial Diploma in Art Therapy offers a general introduction to art therapy, and many of its participants join the course simply to discover this discipline and learn more. Art Therapy is carried out in individual and group sessions with a wide variety of patients and with a range of therapeutic aims. It can be used with any group of any age, just as long as there is a willingness on the part of the individual to begin a form of psychotherapy in which they will be encouraged to produce art work.

Student Profile for our Summer Program:
This introductory course is designed for professionals and students from all creative fields, and the general profile of our participants is that of a student or professional coming from Fine Arts, Psychology, Special Education. In addition, we have many participants from other helping professions or creative backgrounds. The minimum age for participants is 19, and we encourage mature students to apply. This summer course is designed to facilitate access to training in art therapy for people living far from Barcelona who cannot attend the course otherwise.
