Juror's Workshop « Fiber Artists of Oklahoma
Working With Wire
This two-day studio class with juror John Garrett will explore using wire in textile/fiber constructions by itself and with other media. The class will learn how to ply wire on itself and with various materials. From these elements we will explore building structures that can remain two dimension or become three dimensional forms.
This class is about creativity and experimentation. You should bring various materials to combine with wire: yarns and fabric scraps, paper, metal and plastic, beads and buttons, and any other materials with which you want to experiment. This is your chance to use some collections of stuff you can’t part with, but don’t know how to use. Learn new ways to think about fiber art, and have fun expanding your creativity with John using a mixture of new and familiar constructions and materials.
TOOLS AND MATERIALS
Participants should bring:
– 3/8” electric drill (not a dremel) with variable speed and reverse function. (Not every single person has to bring a drill. If you don’t have one, don’t buy one. I’m sure there will be enough so we can share.)
– 2 or 3 inch C clamp
– Wire cutters
– Needle nose pliers
– Gloves if you wish
– Goggles or safety glasses if you wish
– Various materials to combine with wire: yarns and fabric scraps, paper, metal and plastic, beads and buttons and any other materials with which you want to experiment.

Try continuing education classes
by ModernGrey At local Community college, summer workshops at local art schools.
Since you're in the medical profession, cost shouldn't be a factor. Take a sampling of beginning classes: life drawing, acrylic, watercolor and oil painting, maybe a ceramics class to hone your 3D skills. Also try "Mixed Media" which can open up new avenues with respect to the process.
Most painting is about process anyway....might as well explore it.
