The IMA offers classes related to the permanent collection, exhibitions, and the gardens and grounds. Whether designed for families, children, or adults, these experiences encourage participants to draw inspiration from art in the galleries or the outdoor environment, and then create their own works of art in a variety of media.
Adult Classes & Workshops
Adult classes are created designed for participants ages 17 and up. Registrants for these programs will explore a variety of techniques and processes inspired by works of art in the permanent collection, temporary exhibitions, grounds, or The Virginia B. Fairbanks Art & Nature Park:100 Acres and culminate with an art project.
Family classes
Classes for families are offered at the IMA. They offer multi-aged groups the opportunity to share a single art-making experience in the art labs and Star Studio, on the grounds, galleries, or at The Virginia B. Fairbanks Art & Nature Park: 100 Acres. Some of these classes require registration and include program fee.
Camps for kids and teens
Camps are available during the summer for young people ages 6 through 16 at the IMA. Students will spend up to a week exploring the IMA galleries, grounds, gardens, and The Virginia B. Fairbanks Art & Nature Park: 100 Acres to see the multiple ways artists have responded to the world around them. Each camp will include an opportunity for children participants to create their own works of art based on specific themes or media. Registration required.
