The Richmond Art Center offers a wide selection of one- and two-day weekend workshops. Immerse yourself in one of these intensive workshops and explore a new art skill, technique or medium. Classes are taught by visiting artists or Art Center faculty.

Encaustic Fundamentals II

Add new techniques to your repertoire: image transfer, embedding materials, stencils, adding marks, wax pouring and an opportunity to experiment with alternatives to the torch for fusing. Discuss copyright and gallery hanging. Topics structured to allow time for students to focus on mastering techniques. Encaustic Fundamentals I or previous encaustic experience recommended. Bring 3 – 5 wood panels (flat or cradled) 12 x 12 inches or smaller. $70 materials fee due to instructor covers wax and tools/equipment use.

Obama's luxury spas for illegal alien detainees

The Houston Chronicle reports that the Obama administration has ordered the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) department to implement multiple modifications to their facilities to make life easier, more comfortable, and pleasant for the hundreds of thousands of illegal immigrants (approximately 400,000) it detains annually. An internal ICE email highlights 28 different changes the organization will have to make to soften the look of its facilities, present a friendlier environment, offer better entertainment, organize fun activities, and provide illegal immigrant detainees with free access to email and phone services, as well as better dining and training classes
