You will explore traditional encaustic techniques as well as stenciling, collage, solvent transfers, working with glue and shellac, and encaustic on paper and cloth.

This 2 day encaustic class is suitable for students new to this exciting medium. Bring your sense of adventure and go home with some art.

Take your art to new dimensions by learning to combine the ancient art of encaustics with modern photography and printing techniques. This course will cover paper use and selection, mounting techniques and materials, encaustic pouring and painting techniques, and use of other methods such as glazing, scraping, and photocopy transfer. Proper tools and safety procedures will be discussed. Fees will cover two giclee prints as well as mounting panels.

In this workshop you will build collages and mixed media works on panels and on paper. Collage with encaustic wax is a fast, reversible and simple alternative to working with glues. You will explore collage with a variety of papers and cloth. There will be examples of altering materials and surface, stenciling as well as transfer techniques. Collage materials will be fused to the surface working with an iron, heat gun or a torch.

Withdrawals and refunds – If Northwest encaustic cancels a class students will receive a full refund. Students who withdraw two weeks or more prior to the first day of class will receive a full refund minus a $15.00 drop fee and a $10.00 processing fee. Students who withdraw fewer than two weeks prior to a class will not receive a refund.
Missed Classes – There are no discounts or refunds for missed classes.
Drop Fee – A $15.00 fee is applied to each class that is dropped after registration. This fee does not apply to students who add a class within the same quarter.
Class Cancellation – All classes not meeting the minimum enrollment one week prior to the start date may be cancelled. Northwest Encaustic will contact students in affected class and offer refunds or placement in an additional class.
