Each summer, Columbia University School of the Arts welcomes more than 300 students to work with internationally renowned artists and arts scholars on Columbia’s campus in New York City and at Columbia's Global Centers around the world. Developed by our own graduate faculty in the School of the Arts Film, Theatre, Visual Arts and Writing MFA Programs, School of the Arts summer arts courses are designed to engage and appeal to individuals at all levels of artistic experience, from beginning to professional artists.
Faculty from the School of the Arts graduate Film Program have prepared an exciting lineup of courses for Summer 2014, highlighted by a suite of film writing programs, including the Television Writing Intensive, Fiction to Film: The Art of Adaptation, Writing and Producing Webisodes, Finishing Your Feature: Completing the Three-Act Screenplay, and Writing Children’s Television; as well as exciting new offerings in cinema studies, including Cinema and New York City and The New Hollywood: 1967-1980. We will also offer Discovering French Cinema in Paris, a month-long immersion with Film Professor Richard Peña.
The School of the Arts graduate Writing Program faculty have designed another summer of inspiring courses for 2014, including How to Write Funny, Travel Writing, Young Adult Novel, Short Prose Forms, More Than Memoir, and Writing and Illustrating Children's Books. We also offer multiple workshops in fiction, nonfiction, and poetry throughout the summer.
The School of the Arts graduate Visual Arts Program offers three summer intensives in Advanced Painting, Advanced Printmaking, and Advanced Photography. Visual Arts also offers a line up of introductory drawing, painting, and photography courses, as well as Plein Air Painting and Printmaking: Silkscreen.
Faculty of the School of the Arts graduate Theatre Program have developed three new summer workshops: Acting Shakespeare; Creating a Play; and Screen to Stage. The Theatre Program will also be offering the New York Theatre Event: Off and Off-Off Broadway, providing students the rare chance study the creation of theatre in NYC, the heart of theatre in America.

AltoRedux, maybe this is a little unfair being so brief (gotta run to a rehearsal), but I notice no one's replied so let me just mention I've been to workshops in Perugia, Italy and Amsterdam given by Berklee and Manhattan School of Music. I realize the locations are different, so are the students to some degree, but the faculties are the same as at their home schools and I can say unequivocally that both are outstanding.
